Guess where I am?
I’m at the kid’s area called Bugs Bunny Spooky Town where kids can come.
Some are even dressed in costumes.
They are so cute!
It’s nice opportunity for kids under 12 years old to paint pumpkins to give to someone.
I’m gonna throw this one away.
They can also hear scary stories.
Speaking of stories, here are a couple of stories happening in the news today.
Police in New York City say four homeless men were killed in Manhattan while they slept.
The grisly discoveries began around 2 am when a man’s body was found near a building in Manhattan’s Chinatown neighborhood.
Later Saturday morning three more dead men were found along Broadway.
All four victims had been hit with a metal object while they slept.
A fifth homeless man was also injured but he survived the attack and is listed in critical condition in a local hospital.
Police have not released details about what led to the attacks but a suspect, a 24-year old man who investigators believe is also homeless, is in custody.
According to New York governor Andrew Cuomo, the state could end its AIDS epidemic by the end of next year.
Cuomo made the announcement this week that new HIV diagnoses have dropped to a historic low.
The state has spent $20 million since 2015 to fund the “Ending The Epidemic” initiative.
The initiative was designed to connect undiagnosed patients with proper care and to prevent high-risk New Yorkers from contracting the virus.
By 2018, nearly 32,000 New Yorkers had taken a pre-exposure drug which can reduce the risk of getting HIV from sex by nearly 99%.
According to the Minority HIV/AIDS Fund, more than 1 million people in the U.S. live with HIV, and 1 in 7 people living with the virus are undiagnosed.
Men who have sex with other men remain at a disproportionately high risk for contracting the virus.
On a lighter note, did you know today is National Do Something Nice day?
I know it can be easy to focus on the negative parts of your day or fixate on a rude comment somebody made to you.
But today is a reminder that it’s not all bad.
Even the smallest thing can make someone feel so much better.
Here are some suggestions to spread a little joy to those around you and to yourself.
If you notice someone in your life really needs a task done but doesn’t have time, go ahead and take care of it for them.
Buy someone their favorite piece of candy, listen to them talk about something that’s frustrating them or just give a compliment.
And while you’re doing all these things for other people, don’t forget about yourself.
Pamper yourself, take a quiet walk, go shopping, or just veg out on the couch binge watching Netflix.
These are just a few ideas but you get the picture.
Trust me.
Those small acts can make a big difference in someone’s life including your own.
Okay, we’re not finished just yet.
Candace Jones is coming up with more from the Scare Zone.
Keep watching.
See you then.
