Walmart announced Tuesday it will stop selling handgun ammunition and short barrel rifle ammunition.
However Walmart will continue to sell longer barrel deer rifles, shotguns and much of the ammunition needed for those weapons.
One month ago, more than twenty people were killed in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.
The recent shooting, as well as other recent mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and Midland and Odessa, Texas has sparked this policy change.
Walmart is now asking customers not to openly carry guns into it stores or its Sams Club stores in states that allow open carry.
Kroger has also asked customers not to openly carry guns into it stores.
Concealed carry is still allowed by customers with permits in its stores.
Walmart is demanding Congress to enact gun safety measures.
