Lawmakers in the UK are condemning Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament for five weeks.

Johnson has been trying to convince lawmakers to agree to a quick general election allowing the UK to leave the European Union before the October 31 deadline.

But opposition parties showed a united front on Friday, saying they would not support it.

And they believe Johnson’s decision to suspend Parliament is designed to limit the time his opponents have to prevent a ‘no-deal.’

A ‘no-deal’ means if lawmakers fail to agree on a decision to leave the European Union, Britain could withdraw from the EU without any legal procedures in place to smooth the transition.

Opponents say a no-deal is undemocratic and an all-out assault on British constitutional law.

Since Johnson’s announcement, a cross-party alliance has banded together to push through a bill stopping the UK from leaving the EU without a deal on the October 31 deadline.

In response, Johnson fired twenty-one lawmakers who voted in favor of the bill.
