Miss Universe is international beauty pageant.
And for the first time in history Miss Universe, Miss America, Miss USA and Miss Teen are all black women.
Tunzi excelled through rounds of swimsuit and evening gown struts, questions on social issues and a final chance to explain why she was the right choice.
During her closing statement in the pageant she said “I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me, with my skin and my kind of hair was never considered beautiful.”
She went on to say she thinks it’s time for that to stop.
She also said “leadership” is the most important thing we should be teaching young girls.
The two runner-ups for the Miss Universe crown were Miss Mexico and Miss Puerto Rico.
The competition was hosted at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.
