Navy announces 1st black female fighter pilot

For the first time in recorded history a black woman is set to be a US Navy tactical pilot.

Naval air training command is congratulating Lieutenant Madeleine Swegle.

In a tweet it says she’s receiving her “wings of gold” this month.

Public figures such as Senator Elizabeth Warren and tennis legend Billie Jean King took to Twitter this weekend to congratulate Swegle.

Swegle’s history-making accomplishment comes nearly 100 years after the beginning of Naval aviation.
